The institute is also known to be the NYIT and is a private doctoral and research university. The university has many locations including the main and the cybersecurity campuses in Long Island, New York, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Vancouver, Canada, Abu Dhabi, UAE, and China. They altogether have 2 colleges and 5 schools.

The main focus is on technology as the main facilities are School of Architecture and Design, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education, School of Management, School of Health Professions, School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Osteopathic Medicine.
